PREVIEW: Men's Soccer hosts #4 Anderson in critical SAC clash

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College men's soccer team goes to battle against the nation's fourth-ranked team in the Anderson Trojans on Saturday at Frock Field.

Bastos Debuts
- Sophomore defender Arthur Bastos was a member of the starting 11 at Coker on Wednesday in his first appearance as a Catawba Indian
- The Fortaleza, Brazil, product spent all but a handful of seconds on the field, taking the place of Luis Rodrigues who did not play in the contest after starting the previous six matches
- Bastos is no stranger to college soccer, however, as he, Rodrigues and Carlos Zapata were rookies under Alex Morais at Murray State College last season

Top SAC Forwards
- Máté Kenyeres and Giovanni Benericetti have a right to claim their status as two of the finest forwards in the conference, despite Wednesday's scoreless outcome
- Kenyeres remains atop the SAC with five goals and 10 points, hitting both of his current marks within the season's first four matches
- Benericetti is the league's most prolific helper with four assists on the year in addition to one goal
- Attacking midfielder Tomas Kelly has also been a valuable piece in the offensive half, ranking second in the SAC for total points with eight (three goals and two assists)

All-Time Series
- Catawba is 2-10-2 in its series against Anderson
- The Catawba Indians have yet to defeat the Trojans at Frock Field with an 0-5-2 record
- The last meeting was in the Palmetto State last year, resulting in a 1-0 victory for Catawba thanks to a second-half penalty kick
- A win over Anderson would tie the Catawba Indians' highest-ranked win since a 2-1 triumph over fourth-ranked Coker in 2021

Scouting the Trojans
- Anderson is undefeated through seven matches including four wins and three draws
- The Trojans have been slotted at No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches' poll for the past four weeks
- AU is coming off a 1-1 draw against Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, surrendering a point to the one-win Bears
- The squad tops the SAC with 15 total goals spread across eight different scorers, led by Juan Jose Alvarez and Jonas Zethofer at three apiece
