Boca Raton, Fla. —- The 3rd-ranked Catawba College baseball team earned its first win of the 2025 season after a gem of an outing from graduate student starting pitcher Payne Stolsworth with a 3-0 win at Lynn University in game two of their four-game Florida trip Saturday afternoon.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- 2024 SAC Pitcher of the Year Stolsworth picked up right where he left off in his first start of the season, tossing seven shutout innings with five hits and a walk allowed, striking out 11 batters
- Joe Burleyson came in for an 8th-inning hold and Sam Alessi closed it down in the ninth for the save, both making their Catawba debuts
- Hunter Atkins went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored
- Nathan Chrismon and Dylan Driver both drove in a run on two hits; Ty Hubbard doubled
HOW IT HAPPENED
SECOND INNING
- Cooper Bryson drew a hit-by-pitch to load the bases in the second with two outs
- Chrismon singled through the left side to score Atkins before Driver followed up with an infield single to plate Cole Hales to take a 2-0 lead
SEVENTH INNING
- Atkins and Hubbard walked to get two runners on with two outs
- Hales hit an RBI single the other way, scoring Atkins to plate an insurance run
GAME NOTES
- Stolsworth's third outing in his Catawba career of seven-plus shutout innings
- His 11 strikeouts matches his Catawba career-high (4/6/24 vs. Mars Hill)
