Foskey drops career-high 38 points, Women's Basketball rolls to win at E&H

Emory, Va. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team utilized a career-high 38 points from senior forward Janiya Foskey to help the Catawba Indians to an 84-70 win on the road at Emory & Henry University on Saturday to inch closer to clinching a top-five seed in the South Atlantic Conference.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Catawba shot 34-for-70 (49 percent) from the field, while Emory & Henry was 26-of-54 (48 percent) from the floor

- The Catawba Indians were 6-for-17 (35 percent) from three-point range; the Wasps were 8-of-24 (33 percent) from deep

- E&H was 10-for-12 (83 percent) from the free throw line, while Catawba went 10-of-15 (67 percent) at the charity stripe

- The Catawba Indians out-rebounded Emory & Henry 37-31; Catawba's 15 offensive rebounds helped them to a 15-5 advantage in second-chance points

- The Wasps had 19 assists to 21 turnovers, while Catawba recorded 12 assists to just 11 turnovers; Catawba dominated 33-11 in points off turnovers

- The Catawba Indians held a huge 52-32 advantage in the paint, while E&H had big leads in fastbreak points (10-7) and bench points (50-20)

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Foskey dropped a career-high 38 points on 16-for-24 shooting with 12 rebounds

- Mary Spry added 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting off the bench with eight boards

- Nala Baker was the third Catawba Indian in double figures with 15 points and four steals

- Imani Williams dished out a team-high five assists off the bench

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST QUARTER

- A 7-0 run capped by a Baker three-pointer helped Catawba open up an early 9-3 lead

- Another Baker triple made it a 10-point lead for the Catawba Indians just three minutes in

- Emory & Henry responded with a 7-0 run of their own to cut their deficit to 20-16 at the 3:04 mark

- Catawba led 26-25 after a fast-paced opening quarter

 

SECOND QUARTER

- The Wasps took their first lead since 3-0 on a Lyndie Ramsey layup to make it 30-28 at the 7:31 mark

- Back-to-back Foskey layups gave Catawba a multi-possession lead once again, leading by four with three and a half minutes to go in the opening half

- A 5-0 run erased the deficit for Emory & Henry and gave them a 41-40 lead with less than two minutes to go

- E&H led Catawba 43-42 at the half

 

THIRD QUARTER

- A 6-0 run for Catawba early in the third gave them a 50-44 lead two and a half minutes in

- Five straight points from Emory & Henry pulled them within a single point once again at the 6:38 mark

- After E&H tied the game at 52, Catawba embarked on a 14-0 run with 10 combined points from Foskey and Spry to break the game open, leading 66-52 at the 1:11 mark

- The Wasps scored the final six points of the period to cut their deficit to 66-58 with 10 minutes to go

 

FOURTH QUARTER

- A 9-1 run early in the fourth pushed the Catawba lead back to 16 to force an Emory & Henry timeout at the 4:03 mark

- The Wasps would not get the lead below 14 points as Catawba maintained control the rest of the way to earn their fourth win in the last five games

 

GAME NOTES

- Foskey's 38 points crushes her previous career high of 28 (Jan. 4, Mars Hill)

- Ties for the fifth-most points in a single game in Catawba history, matching Lyrik Thorne's career-best 38 vs Carson-Newman in 2024

- Foskey's fifth straight game of 20 or more points; the senior is averaging 25.2 points per game in her last five outings, was averaging 11.5 points per game in 19 previous games
