Salisbury, N.C. —- The 3rd-ranked Catawba College baseball team allowed five home runs at Newman Park on Saturday, falling 14-8 against Shippensburg, as the 2024 team was honored with its SAC and Southeast Region championship rings.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Shippensburg out-hit Catawba 13-11
- The Raiders recorded eight of 12 extra-base hits in the game and five of seven home runs
- Catawba committed both errors in the contest

- Nathan Chrismon also homered with three RBI
- Cole Hales recorded two hits with a double and scored twice

- Seth Sharpe did not allow a baserunner in 1.1 innings of work in relief in his collegiate debut, striking out two
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST INNING
- Mason Morris' two-out RBI single scored a run for Shippensburg in the top of the first
- Driver doubled and scored on Sam Hunter's RBI single to right in the bottom half to even up the score
SECOND INNING
- The Raiders' Thomas Canno-Piszel and Kyle Ausgotharp hit back-to-back solo homers to start the second
FOURTH INNING
- A balk scored Shippensburg's fourth run of the game in the fourth, leading 4-1
FIFTH INNING
- Gio Calamia and AJ Wenrich hit back-to-back homers again for the Raiders in the sixth
- Two walks, a double steal, a wild pitch and a sac fly added two more runs for Ship, as the Raiders led 8-1 in the fifth
SIXTH INNING
- Calamia's two-out, two-run homer was his second in as many innings to push the lead to 10-1
SEVENTH INNING
- Mike Heckman made it 12-1 with two-out, two-run double in the seventh
EIGHTH INNING
- Colby Taylor ripped an RBI single through the right side to start the scoring in the eighth for Catawba
- Chrismon lifted a three-run homer to left field to cut their deficit to 12-5
- Driver smashed a no-doubt homer to left field on the very next pitch to make it 12-6
NINTH INNING
- A throwing error on a double steal allowed Shippensburg to score a run before Carter Hinds' RBI double made it 14-6
- A single and three walks scored a run as Parker Styborski picked up the RBI
- Dunlap's RBI single through the right side scored another run and moved everyone up 90 feet

- Catawba and Shippensburg return to Newman Park for the series finale and rubber match on Sunday; first pitch is set for 12 p.m.
