GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — After enduring a setback to Tusculum in Salisbury last week, the Catawba College men's volleyball team got revenge against the Pioneers, 3-2, in a thrilling comeback victory on Friday night.
TEAM STATS
- The Catawba Indians (13-10, 1-1 IVA) smashed 65 kills with a .224 hitting percentage, rivaling the 59 strikes and .199 success rate compiled by Tusculum (14-12, 2-3 IVA)
- The Pioneers held the edge in service, boasting a 4-2 advantage in aces with an .858-.839 margin in service percentage
- Catawba finished with a 48-47 lead in digs, but the Pioneers were more efficient reception-wise by an .979-.959 difference in success
- The hosts tallied 13 total blocks, including five solo stops, while Catawba compiled 12 blocks – all assisted
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Trevor Phillips chalked up a career-high 27 kills on a .340 clip, adding in six digs and five blocks defensively
- John Cordray also set a new career best with 16 kills while logging a service ace, five digs and two denials
- Eli Zdonek registered a double-double, collecting 12 kills and 13 digs in addition to one ace, three assists and a trio of blocks
- Kristian Smith dished out 51 assists with no setting errors, flirting with a double-double at nine digs while supplying one kill and four stops
- Luke O'Neill starred at the net, tallying a career-high 10 blocks – the best five-set performance among Intercollegiate Volleyball Association players this season – with four kills on the offensive end
