Salisbury, N.C. —- The 10th-ranked Catawba College men's tennis team earned its first outright regular season South Atlantic Conference title in program history with a 4-0 sweep of Tusculum at the Johnson Tennis Courts on Saturday, honoring their two seniors on Senior Day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- Agustin Mastri and Luca Bergonzi got it started with a 6-4 win at #1 doubles
- Thomas Kostka and Marcos Castares helped clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at #2 doubles
- Mateo Berne and Sebastian Zabala led 5-4 at #3 doubles at clinch point
SINGLES
- Bergonzi kept his hot streak going with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #4s
- Ryosuke Inagawa earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the #5s opponent
- Mastri helped clinch the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against the top-ranked Pioneer
- Berne neared a victory with a 6-3, 5-2 victory at #3 singles
- Castares did the same, leading 6-0, 6-5 at #6s
- Kostka led 6-4, 3-2 at the #2 ranked singles position
