Lindsey tallies hat trick; Men's Lacrosse closes regular season at #6 Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Catawba College men's lacrosse team wrapped up its regular season slate on Wednesday afternoon, enduring a 23-9 loss on the road against sixth-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne at Moretz Stadium.

 

TEAM STATS

- Catawba (9-6, 4-6 SAC) totaled 26 shots as Lenoir-Rhyne (13-2, 8-2 SAC) fired 61, a sizable disparity that ballooned in the middle quarters

- The Bears committed half as many turnovers as Catawba did, winning the battle 24-12, and had double the ground balls by a 38-19 margin

- The Catawba Indians went 14-for-24 on the clear, rivaling the near-perfect 20-for-21 mark recorded by LR

- On the faceoff dot, Catawba posted a 11-for-36 (.306) as Cael Petroff had all 11 wins; Matthew Mancini led the way for the Bears, logging 20 faceoff triumphs

- Ben LoPiccolo got the decision in net for the visitors, making 13 saves before Brady Gauntner pocketed five stops in the final 16 minutes; Jack Burdge took the win with five saves for LR

 

INDIVIDUAL STATS

- Michael Lindsey attempted a career-high eight shots, finding paydirt three times to notch the second hat trick of his rookie year

- Gabriel Barker and Tanner Stout supplied two goals apiece while Frank Cetrone and Jordan Dash each found the back of the net once

- Garrett Simi picked up two assists as Andrew Crumpacker tacked on a lone helper

- After Petroff's six ground balls, four Catawba Indians registered two apiece – Steven Hernandez, Jack Butler, Garrett Alban and Owen Conway

- Hernandez, Xan Varner and Brian Garcia checked in atop the caused turnover list with two takeaways each

 

UP NEXT

The Catawba Indians have secured a South Atlantic Conference Championship berth for the first time since 2022, entering as the sixth seed. The squad heads back to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, Apr. 26 to face the third-seeded Bears at a time to be determined.
