PREVIEW: Women’s Volleyball jousts with Rams in home opener Tuesday

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College women's volleyball team opens at home on Tuesday, lining up against in-state foe Winston-Salem State at 6 p.m. inside Goodman Arena.

Opening Weekend Recap
- Catawba opened its 2025 season with a 1-2 showing at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational, kicking it off with a five-set win over Lees-McRae preceding losses to Florida Tech and Mount Olive
Sofia Beard led the way on offense with 33 kills, followed closely by Lillie Kate Rogers' 30 blasts
- A robust defensive effort with 23 total blocks featured Beard and Annica Kagle tallying three solo stops apiece
- Junior libero Riley Hill recorded 46 digs while Rogers and freshman setter Tamie Boudot also crossed the 20-dig mark
- Heading into Tuesday, Haley Moffett tops the lineup with 57 assists and four service aces

Catawba vs. CIAA
- The Catawba Indians have two CIAA programs on the docket this week: Winston-Salem State on Tuesday, then Shaw on Friday
- Catawba visited the Bears during the Shaw U Invitational last year, suffering a 3-0 defeat on the event's final day
- The last team affiliated with the CIAA to visit Goodman Arena was Chowan on Sept. 14, 2019, which resulted in a 3-1 win for the hosts; the Hawks were a football-only member
- CIAA program Livingstone shares a home with Catawba in Salisbury, not far from the conference's home office in Charlotte

All-Time Series
- Catawba leads Winston-Salem State in the all-time series by a 14-7 ledger
- Although WSSU defeated the Catawba Indians in the previous two meetings, the blue and white have not lost to the Rams at home in four consecutive tries
- The Catawba Indians are seeking their first home opener win since the previously mentioned match against Chowan

Scouting the Rams
- Tuesday's match will be Winston-Salem State's season opener
- The Rams hoofed to a 14-11 record in 2024, falling to Bluefield State in the quarterfinal round of the CIAA Tournament
- Last season, WSSU held opponents to a .152 hitting percentage to stand 37th in Division II
- Zoe Chesson and Malani Martin were selected to the Preseason All-CIAA Team following strong freshman campaigns in the Twin City
