FAIRFAX, Va. — The second season of Catawba College Men's Volleyball could not have started much better as the Catawba Indians picked up their first-ever ranked win against No. 19 George Mason, 3-2, on Saturday evening at Mason's Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC).
TEAM STATS
- The Catawba Indians (1-0) were decently efficient with a .250 hitting percentage, slightly below the .269 mark offered by George Mason (1-0)
- Catawba led the ace count 7-4 with the typical first-match statline in service as the combined error total amounted to 50
- Defensively, the Patriots had the upper hand in digs with a mighty 38-24 advantage, but Catawba posted a firm 10.5-6 margin in blocking
- The blue and white notched a side-out percentage above 50% in all five sets and hit .200 or better in the final four stanzas, highlighted by a .438 fifth set
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- John Cordray mashed on the outside with a career-high 19 kills on a .359 success rate, adding four blocks and six digs defensively
- Coming off a redshirt season, Justin Arrowood broke into double figures in his collegiate debut with 10 kills and five digs
- Freshman Logan Neitzel notched the program's second-best blocking total with eight denials in the middle while he slammed nine kills on 15 swings with no errors for a .600 hitting percentage
- Kristian Smith was exemplary at the setter slot, dishing out 43 assists with a career-high four aces, two kills and two blocks
- Max Adkisson held down the defense with six digs and went errorless in 26 receptions and seven set attempts

Catawba retakes the court on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Belmont Abbey. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. against the nationally-recognized Crusaders.
