Fort Lauderdale, Fla. —- The 5th-ranked Catawba College baseball team saw its slim 1-0 lead slip away in the bottom of the ninth, but left the winning run at third base and plated three runs in the top of the tenth to earn an extra-innings win over Nova Southeastern on Saturday.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Joe Burleyson struck out three in batters faced to earn the win while stranding the game-winning run in the ninth on third base
- Kemper Nix threw five innings in his Catawba debut, allowing four hits and four walks with four strikeouts
- Braeden Major, Calvin Douglas and Seth Sharpe combined for two shutout innings of relief
- Nathan Chrismon was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored
- Sam Hunter delivered the go-ahead base hit on a double
- Jake Dunlap also drove in a critical run on an RBI base knock
HOW IT HAPPENED
SECOND INNING
- Chrismon walked and stole second to lead off the second frame for Catawba
- Dunlap's one-our single to right field scored Chrismon from third to take an early lead
NINTH INNING
- Neither team scored again until the bottom of the ninth, when the Sharks strung together three walks and a hit-by-pitch to scratch across the tying run with two outs
- Burleyson left them loaded to extend the game to extras
TENTH INNING
- Parker Styborski dropped in a base hit to lead off the 10th and a bunt moved him over to scoring position
- Hunter delivered the big RBI base hit on a double to right field
- Chrismon's two-RBI single provided insurance before he was thrown out trying to extend the play to second
- Burleyson struck out three in the bottom of the frame to finish off the win

- Catawba is back in action in Boca Raton tomorrow, facing Lynn at 2 p.m.
