GREENVILLE, S.C. — Catawba College women's swimming standout Fernanda Regina Pera Dos Santos has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Swimmer of the Week following an impressive performance against Queens.
The recognition adds to a standout week for Pera Dos Santos, who was also named the SwimCloud Division II Women's Swimmer of the Week for her efforts in the pool, marking the first honor of such in program history for Catawba swimming.
The sophomore from Campinas, Brazil, recorded two NCAA Division II B cuts and two lifetime-best performances in Friday's dual meet against Division I Queens University of Charlotte.
Pera Dos Santos highlighted her outing with a lifetime-best 1:49.56 in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing second overall. The performance earned an NCAA B cut and surpassed last season's NCAA Division II championship invitation time.
She added another runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 50.91 to secure her second NCAA B cut of the meet. Pera Dos Santos also recorded a personal-best 2:06.28 in the 200-yard individual medley.
In relay action, Pera Dos Santos joined Eniko Onofer, Mahée Gory-Lauret and Danila Sita in the 400-yard medley relay, helping the Catawba Indians post a time of 3:44.20 to finish second and achieve an NCAA relay qualifying standard.
Pera Dos Santos and Catawba return to action Friday, Oct. 16, traveling to Wingate for a 1 p.m. meet against the Bulldogs.
