Evansville, Ind. — The Catawba College women's swimming team set a record finish of ninth at the NCAA National Championships in Evansville, Ind. on Saturday, finishing first among teams from the South Atlantic Conference in the championships.
HOW IT HAPPENED
PRELIMS
100-Yard Freestyle
- Marit Reckmann punched her ticket to a Championship A final with a mark of 50.31
- Eniko Onofer was the final qualifier for the Championship B final with a time of 50.73
- Fernanda Regina Pera Dos Santos touched the wall in 50.95 seconds, good for a tie for 21st place in the prelims
100-Yard Backstroke
- Eszter Pajor recorded a time that qualified her for the Championship B final in the 100 Back
200-Yard Breaststroke
- Gabriella Moll turned in a top-five time in the Women's 200 Breast in prelims, setting her up with a Championship A final later in the day
- Mahee Gory-Lauret qualified for the B final in the same event
1,650-Yard Freestyle
- Fiona Byrne placed ninth in the Women's 1650 Free, good for Second Team All-America
- Danielle Meinema joined her as an All-American in the event with a 12th-place finish with a mark of 15:14.38
FINALS
100-Yard Freestyle
- Reckmann jumped to fifth in the Women's 100 Free final with a sub-50 second mark of 49.91 seconds
- Onofer placed 16th in the final
200-Yard Backstroke
- Pajor placed in a tie for tenth in the 200 Back final, racing to a mark of 2:00.98
200-Yard Breaststroke
- In her final collegiate race, Moll placed sixth in the Women's 200 Breast with a time of 2:15.03, good for First Team All-America
- Gory-Lauret finished 15th in her first 200 Breast final with a time of 2:17.22
400-Yard Freestyle Relay
- Catawba's 400 Free Relay team of Fernanda Regina Pera Dos Santos, Reckmann, Onofer and Meinema made it a perfect sweep for Catawba's women's relays to reach All-America status with a time of 3:20.54, good for fifth in the country
STANDINGS FINISH
- Catawba reached its highest finish at NCAAs in program history of ninth, jumping Delta State and Wingate on the final day to crack the top ten for the first time
