Salisbury, N.C. — The Catawba College women's basketball team suffered its sixth home loss of the season on Wednesday evening when it fell to South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate inside Goodman Arena, 73-47, in league play.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Wingate was 25-for-54 (46 percent) from the field, while Catawba shot 18-of-53 (34 percent) from the floor
- The Bulldogs were 9-for-19 (47 percent) from three-point range; the Catawba Indians went 9-for-35 (26 percent) from deep
- WU was 14-for-15 (93 percent) from the free throw line, while Catawba was 2-for-6 (33 percent) from the charity stripe
- Wingate out-rebounded the Catawba Indians 39-27; the Bulldogs' 12 offensive rebounds led to 17 second-chance points
- Wingate recorded 16 assists to 16 turnovers, while Catawba had 11 assists to 17 turnovers; the Bulldogs held a slight 19-15 edge in points off turnovers
- The Bulldogs led 26-12 in points in the paint, 5-0 in fastbreak points and 15-10 in bench points
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Brooklin Ingram scored a game-high 18 points with four made three-pointers and five rebounds
- Mary Spry added eight points and five boards
- Julie Janus knocked down a pair of three-pointers and dished out three assists
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- Wingate opened up a 10-5 lead seven minutes into the opening quarter
- The Bulldogs led 12-8 after 10 minutes
SECOND QUARTER
- Wingate scored the first five points of the second quarter to lead 17-8 less than a minute into the second
- The Bulldogs led 25-11 at the 5:59 mark
- The visitors led 33-18 heading into the halftime locker room
THIRD QUARTER
- Wingate pushed the lead to 20 points near the seven-minute mark of the third
- The Bulldogs led 56-35 after three quarters
FOURTH QUARTER
- A 9-0 run to start the fourth helped Wingate extend their lead to 30 points at the 7:23 mark
- Ingram scored five points in a 12-0 Catawba run that trimmed the deficit to 65-47 with two and a half minutes to go
- The Bulldogs scored the last eight points of the game to solidify the final at 73-47
