SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College men's basketball team honored its senior class, then proceeded to blow out Mars Hill, 105-66, on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Arena.
TEAM STATS
- The Catawba Indians (19-7, 14-6 SAC) wrapped up proceedings with a 47.1% clip from the field, rivaling the Lions' (9-17, 3-17 SAC) 35.6% success rate
- Mars Hill encountered freezing temps from beyond the arc, going 4-for-24 (.167) as the 10-for-30 (.333) by Catawba tied the program's season high in attempts
- Each side struggled from the free-throw line, but the Catawba Indians had both the volume and efficiency to keep up at 29-for-40 (72.5%) against Mars Hill's 20-for-28 (71.4%)
- Catawba waxed the Lions in the turnover margin, winning it 26-11 with a scorching 35-9 advantage in points off takeaways
- The blue and white prevailed in every major category, leading in rebounds (45-41) and steals (22-6) with a 9-0 domination in blocked shots
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Seniors led the charge for Catawba as Jordan Simpson racked up a team-high 18 points with four boards, four assists and four steals
- Ibra Athie came off the bench to score 16 points in 17 minutes behind a rock-solid 7-for-10 clip on field goals
- The Daniel twins combined for 16 points, eight assists and seven steals which includes a 10-point, five-dime, four-swipe contest from Carson Daniel
- LeVionne Lindsey, Zion McDuffie and Justin Banks each recorded nine points as the latter fell one point short of a double-double
- Along with his scoring prowess, McDuffie pulled down six rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked a team-high three shots in 16 minutes of work
- Malachi McCutcheon and Dermot Lowry each recorded their first collegiate points; McCutcheon drew a loose ball foul while in the bonus, making both free throws as Lowry corralled a miss and tipped it in
