Wise, Va. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team fell 70-60 in its regular season finale on Saturday at UVA Wise.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba shot 25-for-60 (42 percent) from the field, while UVA Wise went 22-of-59 (37 percent) from the floor
- The Cavaliers were 9-for-22 (41 percent) from three-point range; the Catawba Indians shot 8-for-20 (40 percent) from distance
- Wise was 17-for-27 (63 percent) at the free throw line, while Catawba shot 2-for-7 (29 percent) from the charity stripe
- UVA Wise out-rebounded the Catawba Indians 46-34
- The Cavs recorded 17 assists to 16 turnovers, while Catawba had 15 assists to 16 turnovers; Wise held a 17-12 edge in points off turnovers
- Catawba led in points in the paint (26-20) and bench points (18-15)
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Mary Spry notched her 12th 20-point game of the regular season with 20 points and six rebounds
- Brooklin Ingram added 13 points including three three-pointers with five boards and three assists
- Sheree Gidney chipped in 10 points off the bench with five rebounds
- Kairah Dixon-Booker grabbed five rebounds
- Imani Williams and Saniya Wilson dished out three assists apiece
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- UVA Wise connected on a pair of three-pointers to take an early 8-2 lead
- Catawba answered with a 6-0 run of its own to tie the game near the six-minute mark
- Wise took a seven-point lead with two minutes to go in the opening period
- Kaelyn Allen and Spry buried triples to pull within 19-18 after the first 10 minutes
SECOND QUARTER
- Back-to-back Ingram three-pointers put Catawba in front, 24-19
- Gidney's bucket capped an 8-0 run that had the Catawba Indians in the lead by seven
- A 16-3 run from UVA Wise returned the lead to their favor
- The Cavs led 40-34 at the half
THIRD QUARTER
- A 9-0 run in the third brought Catawba from behind six points to ahead, 48-45, at the 3:10 mark
- The teams were deadlocked at 50 before the Cavaliers closed with the quarter's final six points to take a lead into the final period
FOURTH QUARTER
- After neither team scored for over three minutes to start the fourth, UVA Wise built up a double-digit lead near the midway point
- The Catawba Indians were not able to break within nine points of the Wise lead the rest of the way
