HARTSVILLE, S.C. — The Catawba College men's basketball team struggled to contain a sharpshooting Coker squad on Wednesday night at the DeLoach Center, surrendering a 92-85 loss to give the Cobras their second victory of the season.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (15-6, 10-5 SAC) recorded its best shooting percentage in a losing effort this season at 44.6%, succumbing to a lights-out night from Coker (2-19, 1-14 SAC) who chalked up a 52.7% field goal percentage
- While the Cobras drilled 41.7% of their 24 three-point attempts, the Catawba Indians were held to a 14.3% ledger that included an 0-for-11 clip in the second half
- At the charity stripe, Catawba posted a solid 16-for-20 (80.0%) performance but fell short in volume as Coker went 24-for-32 (75.0%)
- The visitors commanded the offensive boards with 17 grabs, making the difference in a 38-35 final tally in rebounds
- The Catawba Indians made a strong attempt to counteract the Cobras' outside shooting with a 17-12 turnover margin that fed into a 25-14 gap in points off takeaways
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Ibra Athie, who set his career high in scoring at Coker last year, went 11-for-18 from the field to hit the 23-point ceiling again to go with 10 rebounds for a third straight double-double
- Nick Walker posted a 70% shooting clip for 17 points, sharing the No. 2 scoring mark with Jordan Simpson, in addition to eight rebounds featuring a team-high seven defensive boards
- Zion McDuffie was an exceptional plug off the bench, adding 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting with one block and no turnovers in 13 minutes of action
- Simpson and Chase Daniel tallied three steals apiece while Daniel's six dimes led the assist category, followed by LeVionne Lindsey's three
- The Daniel twins combined for an 8-for-8 night at the free-throw line; neither brother has missed a free throw in the last three games, making the duo 20-for-20 in that span
