Salisbury, N.C. — The 6th-ranked Catawba College baseball team scored runs in six of eight innings in which it came up to the plate to roll to a 10-3 win over UVA Wise in their series opener in South Atlantic Conference play at Newman Park on Friday night.
TEAM STATISTICS

- The Catawba Indians hit two of three homers and seven of 11 extra-base hits

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Matthew Connolly hit his team-leading seventh homer of the season with two RBI and two runs scored
- Jake Dunlap picked up a pair of hits, including a double with two RBI and a run scored
- Logan Dyer doubled in two hits and scored twice; Hunter Atkins doubled and homered
- Nathan Chrismon tallied three hits
- Colt Wilkins went eight innings strong to earn the win, allowing two runs on seven hits with no walks and eight punch outs
HOW IT HAPPENED
SECOND INNING
- Hunter Atkins hit a double off the center field wall to lead off the second inning
- Dunlap singled up the middle to score the game's first run
- A single and a wild pitch moved Dunlap up to third
- Ty Hubbard's sacrifice fly put Catawba ahead 2-0
THIRD INNING
- Dyer led off the third with a single and moved up to third on Crabtree's double to right field
- Dyer would score on a throwing error on the play
- Dunlap's two-out RBI double drew Catawba's lead to 4-0
FOURTH INNING
- Two two-out walks and an infield single loaded the bases for Catawba in the fourth
- Dyer scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 5-0
FIFTH INNING
- Hubbard drove a double to the opposite field to score a run in a fourth straight inning for the Catawba Indians
- A two-out throwing error made it 7-0 Catawba after five
SIXTH INNING
- The Cavs strung together three consecutive hits to scratch across two runs on Wilkins in the sixth
- Sam Hunter tripled to right center to lead off the sixth
- Connolly's two-run homer to left field returned Catawba's lead to seven runs
EIGHTH INNING
- Atkins lifted a solo homer to lead off the eighth to left field, making it 10-2, Catawba
