MONROE, N.C. — Through Monday's 27 holes at Rolling Hills Country Club, the ninth-ranked Catawba College men's golf team is tied for fifth place at the Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate hosted by South Atlantic Conference nemesis Wingate.
The Catawba Indians are tied with Carson-Newman in the fifth slot at two-over-par. After shooting two-over-par in the first round, Catawba is off to a stronger start in Round 2 at even par through nine. On its home course, fifth-ranked Wingate possesses a nine-shot lead with a 16-under 415 at the tournament's halfway point. The Bulldogs boast individual leader Alfie Storer (99, -8) and top-five Lewis Beeden (105, -3) to pace the 17-team pack.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lockwood showed flashes of success in the first round as he eagled Hole No. 13, the second-longest on the course, before starting Round 2 with three birdies in the first nine holes
- In his first action of the spring semester, Bonnet shook off the rust with eight day-one birdies as one of three Catawba Indians in a tie for 22nd place
- Esnault accomplished a rare feat late in the opening round with a hole-in-one on par-3, 169-yard Hole No. 16 en route to a team-best 71; he began the second round with a 38 on the front nine
- Kapur has been relatively level with pars on two-thirds of his 27 holes and three birds, standing just one shot above par heading into Tuesday
- Antoniadis enjoyed a three-hole birdie streak stretching from the end of the first round to the start of the second, remaining in striking distance just four shots out of a top-10 standing
