Salisbury, N.C. — The sixth-ranked Catawba College baseball team scored in each of its final six innings at the plate, rolling to a 14-6 win over regionally ranked UNC Pembroke at a chilly Newman Park on Tuesday.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba out-hit UNC Pembroke 14-8
- Both teams had three homers; the Catawba Indians had six of 11 extra-base hits
- The Braves committed two of three errors in the game
- UNCP had three of five stolen bases in the contest
- Catawba's pitchers allowed five earned runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out 13; the Pembroke staff allowed 10 earned runs on 14 hits and seven walks, striking out nine
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Malachi Cloud was 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base
- Logan Dyer also had three hits with two RBI and a run scored
- Sam Hunter homered and tripled with two RBI and two runs scored
- Brandon Crabtree homered and drove in three
- Zachary Gaydos struck out a career-high seven in 3.1 innings in the no-decision start
- Braeden Major got the win while making two outs; Kemper Nix struck out four in three innings of work, allowing just one hit
HOW IT HAPPENED
THIRD INNING
- Dyer got Catawba's first hit of the game on a single to lead off the third
- Crabtree pushed a homer the opposite way to take the early 2-0 lead
- Hunter immediately followed with a triple; Matthew Connolly drove him in on a sac fly for Catawba's third run
FOURTH INNING
- UNC Pembroke got on the board on a solo homer with one out in the fourth
- A two-run homer down the right field line tied the game at 3
- A double and a single gave the Braves the lead, 4-3
- Two infield singles and a walk loaded the bases for Catawba in the bottom half
- Dyer pushed another single the other way to tie the game at 4
- Crabtree's bases-loaded walk and Hunter's sac fly put Catawba ahead 6-4
FIFTH INNING
- Jake Dunlap tripled to left center to lead off the fifth
- Nathan Chrismon drove him in on a sacrifice fly
- Cloud beat out an infield single, stole second and advanced to third on an error
- Dyer singled through the left side to push Catawba's lead to 8-4
SIXTH INNING
- Hunter homered to right to lead off the sixth
- Dunlap doubled down the left field line to extend the lead to 10-4
SEVENTH INNING
- Cloud sent a homer the opposite way to make it an 11-4 Catawba lead
EIGHTH INNING
- Landon Lucas recorded his second homer of the game in the eighth on a solo homer
- A two-out error scored a run for Catawba and extended the inning
- Cloud sent a single the other way to score two more, making it 14-5
NINTH INNING
- UNC Pembroke scored on a two-out error in the ninth

- Catawba returns home to Newman Park for a three-game series this weekend with Wingate – a matchup of the top two teams in the South Atlantic Conference standings
