Prescott’s walk-off RBI single caps Softball’s sweep of Augusta

Salisbury, N.C. — Catawba College senior Adda Prescott drove in the game-winning run on a walk-off single in the second game of a doubleheader with Augusta to close out the sweep of the Jaguars at Whitley Field on Thursday.

GAME ONE | Catawba 5, Augusta 0

TEAM STATISTICS

- Catawba out-hit Augusta 9-2

- The Catawba Indians hit three of four extra-base hits

- The Jaguars committed both errors in the contest

- Catawba recorded all four stolen bases in the game

- The Catawba Indian pitcher threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout with two walks, striking out a season-high nine; Augusta's staff allowed two earned runs on nine hits and three walks, striking out five

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Alex Baquie tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts

- Alexis Monroe was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles

HOW IT HAPPENED

FOURTH INNING

- Prescott doubled with one out in the fourth

- A two-out error allowed Catawba to score its first run of the game

- Monroe added to the lead with a two-run double to make it 3-0

SIXTH INNING

- Gallagher pulled through with a two-out, RBI single in the sixth to extend the Catawba lead

- Maddy Altiers followed with an RBI single of her own to make it 5-0, Catawba

TEAM STATISTICS

- Catawba out-hit Augusta 9-6

- The Jaguars hit both homers and all four extra-base hits

- AU committed three of four errors

- Catawba's pitchers allowed three runs on six hits, striking out eight; Augusta's staff allowed three earned runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out five

- Grace Flynn matched a program record with four stolen bases; she added two singles and four runs scored

- Gallagher went 3-for-4 with two RBI

- Prescott had two hits including the walk-off base hit and game-winning RBI

- Dakota Wilkins tossed eight strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched, allowing three runs

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST INNING

- Flynn walked and stole second and scored on an error in the outfield to take an early lead

THIRD INNING

- Nevaeh Ross doubled to lead off the third for Augusta

- A bunt moved her to third and she scored on a two-out wild pitch

- Flynn singled and stole second with two outs in the third

- After an Augusta error on a dropped foul ball, Gallagher sent an RBI single up the middle and scored, putting Catawba back in front, 2-1

FIFTH INNING

- Flynn was hit by a pitch and stole second in the fifth inning

- Gallagher ripped a two-out single through the left side to score Flynn and extend the lead to 3-1

SEVENTH INNING

- Augusta recorded two solo homers in the seventh to tie the game

- Flynn singled and stole second in the bottom half

- Altiers drew a walk to set up Prescott's walk-off RBI single the other way

UP NEXT

- Catawba returns to South Atlantic Conference play on the road this weekend, traveling to Newberry for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
