Newberry, S.C. —- The 5th-ranked Catawba College baseball team utilized another complete-game performance from senior pitcher Colt Wilkins to earn a road victory in the South Atlantic Conference series opener with Newberry on Friday night, growing their lead atop the conference standings to four games.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Ty Hubbard was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and a stolen base
- Sam Hunter added a pair of hits with an RBI and two runs scored
- Jake Dunlap doubled in two hits, driving in two and scoring one more
- Nathan Chrismon went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base
- Wilkins went the distance in his second straight outing, pitching nine innings, including keeping Newberry scoreless for the final four frames
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST INNING
- A single and a walk preceded Dunlap's RBI double with one out in the first inning
- Hubbard ripped a two-run double down the right field line to take an early 3-0 lead
- The Wolves loaded the bases in the bottom half with a single, a walk and an HBP
- Finn McLaughlin's bases-clearing double tied the game at 3
SECOND INNING
- Hunter sent an RBI single the opposite way to regain the lead at 4-3
- Dunlap's second RBI base hit in as many innings pushed Catawba's lead to 5-3
- Hubbard's infield single made it 6-3 after two innings
THIRD INNING
- Newberry advanced to runner to third with one out, allowing Logan Busenlehner's sac fly to cut into Catawba's lead
FOURTH INNING
- With runners on the corners and one out, Newberry beat out a potential inning-ending double play to pull within a run
FIFTH INNING
- Malachi Cloud's two-out double started a rally that saw Chrismon trade spots with him on a double of his own, returning the lead to two runs
- Parker Styborski's two-out RBI single up the middle made it 8-5

- Catawba can finish off the outright SAC regular season title if they take both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday at Newberry; first pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
