alisbury, N.C. — Catawba College senior Colt Wilkins went six-plus innings for his fourth straight start, leading the 5th-ranked Catawba College baseball team to a series-opening win on Friday night over Emory & Henry at Newman Park, 4-1.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Colt Wilkins picked up his eighth win of the season with 7.1 innings of one-run baseball on five hits and one walk, striking out six
- Seth Sharpe and Joe Burleyson combined for the final five outs with the latter picking up the save
- Sam Hunter had a three-hit night including a double with two runs scored; his two stolen bases helped him pass Spence Southard for third all-time in program history in just three seasons
- Jake Dunlap singled and drove in two
HOW IT HAPPENED
FOURTH INNING
- Hunter singled and stole second with two outs in the fourth
- Hunter Atkins drove him in with a single to left field in his return to play
FIFTH INNING
- Ty Hubbard reached first on an error in the fifth before he stole second
- Malachi Cloud came through with a two-out RBI single to push the lead to two
SIXTH INNING
- Brandon Crabtree singled to lead off the sixth before Hunter followed up with a double to put two runners in scoring position with nobody out
- Dunlap brought Crabtree home with a sacrifice fly
EIGHTH INNING
- Kyle Fields' two-out double scored Emory & Henry's first run
- With the tying run in scoring position, Hubbard barehanded a ball deflected off of Sharpe and made the play at first to end the inning
- Hunter dropped a bunt single to third and stole second
- Dunlap drove in another run on a single to center field
