Jefferson City, Tenn. —- The Catawba College softball team suffered a hard-fought loss in the opening game of the South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament on Saturday, falling to third-seed Carson-Newman, 2-1.

- With runners on the corners and two out, the Eagles scored on a failed pickoff attempt to lead 2-0
SIXTH INNING
- Wilkins singled to right field and advanced to second on a hit-by-pitch
- Gallagher's two-out single up the middle scored Catawba's first run of the game
