SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College men's cross country team turned in a dominant performance Saturday morning, claiming the top nine overall spots to win the ChicknLegs XC Throwdown at Salisbury Community Park.
The Catawba Indians posted a perfect team score of 15 points, finishing well ahead of second-place Emory & Henry, which scored 64 points. North Carolina A&T finished third with 90 points.
Senior Seth Caudill led the way for Catawba, winning the individual 8-kilometer race with a time of 25:47.4. Junior Carson Wells followed closely behind in second at 25:59.5.
Freshman Kristian Rodriguez placed third in 26:27.8, followed by sophomore Seth Roy in fourth at 26:28.0 and junior Tyler Shumate in fifth at 26:28.1 to round out Catawba's scoring five.
Sophomore Tyler Arnold finished sixth in 26:28.3, while senior Michael Martinez was seventh at 26:28.3. Senior Ian Pierce placed eighth in 26:28.5, and freshman Jay Olin completed Catawba's sweep of the top nine with a time of 26:37.0.
Catawba placed 13 runners among the top 19 overall finishers, showcasing the depth of the Catawba lineup.
The Catawba Indians will hit the course next at the Royals Cross Country Challenge Oct. 9 in Charlotte N.C.
