SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba College women's soccer team shut out the Anderson University Trojans 4-0 on Saturday night at the Frock Soccer Complex in South Atlantic Conference action. The Catawba Lady Indians advance to 4-0-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. Anderson drops to 1-3-1 and 0-1-1, respectively.
Sophomore Sydney Jimmo tallied the first goal in the 23rd minute of play after ripping a shot that deflected off a Trojan defender into the upper 90 of the goal.
After the break, Hannah Dunn sneaked one past Anderson goalie Jeanette Campbell off a rebound to put the Indians up 2-0 in the 52nd minute. The initial shot came from Helen Summerell who was set up by Jimmo.
Catawba poured on another goal in the 63rd minute when Dunn took advantage of a two-on-one breakaway with teammate Sharon Mayes for her second goal of the night.
Almost immediately after, in the 65th minute, Jimmo tallied her second goal of the match after senior Jovana Sanchez quickly restarted from an Anderson foul. The quick start gave Jimmo the advantage over Anderson's backup goalie Macy McDufford.
Catawba finished the night with a 22-4 advantage in shots on goal and 8-1 mark in corner kicks. Catawba keeper, Sierra Davis moved to 4-0-1 on the season while Campbell, who made seven saves, falls to 0-2-1. McDufford, who played the final 30 minutes, recorded four saves and was not credited for the loss.
With two goals apiece, Dunn now has seven goals in the early season while Jimmo now has five.
Catawba returns to play on Wednesday, September 22 as they travel to USC Aiken. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
