SALISBURY, N.C. -- Hannah Dunn scored three goals to pace Catawba to an opening 4-0 victory over visiting Francis Marion in women's soccer action on Thursday afternoon at the Frock Soccer Complex. It was the opener for both teams.
Transfer Kelly Havens opening the scoring for the Catawba Indians in the 20th-minute. She knocked home a loose ball in the box after a corner kick. Later in the half, Dunn netted her first of the game in the 34th minute. Taking a pass from Ayden Vaughan, Dunn beat the keeper 1v1 from about 12 yards out.
Catawba didn't add to its total in the later part of the final half. Dunn would score in the 79th and 88th minutes for the final margin. She was freed up alone against the keeper by passes from Sharon Mayes and again from Vaughan for the final tally.
The defense produced another clean sheet, picking up from last spring when Catawba posted six shutouts in nine matches. Sierra Davis recorded seven saves off nine Patriot shots. Makayla Willets collected nine saves for Francis Marion.
Catawba will travel to King on Saturday for a 4 p.m. match.
