No. 10 Women's Soccer Keeps Rolling With 5-0 Win Over Newberry

NEWBERRY, SC – The No. 10 Catawba College women's soccer team continued their impressive play with a commanding 5-0 win over Newberry on Saturday afternoon. Hannah Dunn scored twice to extend her scoring streak and lift the Catawba Indians to a perfect 6-0 start to the season.

The visitors dominated nearly every statistical category as they outshot the Wolves 24-6 and sent 11 of those shots on goal.

Sophomore striker Hannah Dunn continued her reign of terror on opposing defenses as she got Catawba on the board just five minutes into the contest. Kasey Hahn was credited with the assist. It was Dunn's tenth goal of the season as she has now scored in all six games to open the season.

In the 21st minute, Catawba was on the move again when Sydney Jimmo notched her third goal of the year on a well-timed pass from Sharon Mayes.

The Catawba Indians kept their foot on the gas in the last 15 minutes of the first half when they scored back-to-back goals in a two-and-a-half-minute span. In the 33rd minute, Dunn beat the defense yet again for her NCAA Division II-leading 11th goal of the season.

Before the Wolves could blink, Ayden Vaughan got a through ball from Amery Skinner and finished at the net to give Catawba a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Catawba's offense cooled off a bit in the second half, but Kasey Hahn scored in the 71st minute on another assist by Sharon Mayes to bring the score to 5-0.

Goalkeeper Sierra Davis made three saves in 78 minutes of action for the Catawba Indians, and Allison Fredrick came in to finish off the shutout win.

The tenth-ranked women's soccer team will look to keep rolling as they return home for a three-game homestand beginning on Wednesday against Chowan at 5:00 p.m.
