Baseball bounces back in 10-2 win over Mars Hill

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College baseball team bounced back on Friday night, rolling to a 10-2 victory over Mars Hill University in non-league action at Newman Park. The Catawba Indians improve to 5-3 overall, while the Lions drop to 1-9 on the year.

Cameron Mills led the way offensively, hitting two doubles as part of a three-hit outing, driving in three runs and scoring two more. Cooper Bryson also drove in a pair of runs, while scoring two more and swiping a base. Carson Yates also had a multi-hit game for Catawba.

Austin Fine got his third win in as many starts, giving up an unearned run on five hits in 5 innings, walking just one and striking out four. Griffyn Shelton and Cole Hales combined to provide the last three innings of shutout relief.

The Lions scored in the top of the first after a leadoff error, but Catawba answered right back with three runs of their own in the bottom half. Bryson's two-RBI single in the fourth and Yates' RBI single in the fifth padded the lead to 6-1.

While Mars Hill added a run in the top of the sixth, Catawba never seemed in threat of losing the lead, adding four more insurance runs in the eighth while sending eight to the plate in their final trip.

Catawba and Mars Hill continue their three-game set on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
