MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Catawba College men's soccer team makes the three-hour trip east to Mount Olive for a non-conference clash with the Trojans on Wednesday night.
Last Time Out
- Catawba (0-0-2) recorded a pair of draws on opening weekend against Montevallo and USC Aiken
- All three of the squad's goals were tallied against the Falcons as Salano Birch gave Catawba its first score of the year and Sebastia Cerda-Tous logged his third career brace
- Despite substantial leads over USC Aiken in shots (22-1) and corner kicks (14-0), the offense could not convert to chalk up a scoreless draw
All-Time Series
- Catawba has a 9-5 advantage against Mount Olive
- The foes have squared off in each of the past three seasons as Catawba won last year's meeting at Amon Field by a 1-0 margin
- Out of the series' 14 meetings, nine have been decided by one goal. UMO has prevailed twice by two goals (3-1 in 2017, 2-0 in 2012) while Catawba has delivered two multi-score shutouts (3-0 in 2014, 4-0 in 2011)
Scouting the Trojans
- Mount Olive (0-1) dropped its season opener to the South Atlantic Conference's Mars Hill Lions, 2-1, at the Bryan Multi-Sports Complex in Goldsboro, N.C.
- The Trojans launched four shots on goal, finding paydirt on a penalty kick to the bottom right corner of the net by Babacar Fall
- Fall was one of six UMO players with two goals in 2023. Zachary Applewhite, Manny Duran, and Juan Gonzalez-Gancedo are also back following two-score campaigns
- Applewhite, a native of Saint George, Barbados, competed for the Caribbean country's national team for two matches last fall during the League B Group Stage in the CONCACAF Nations League
