#11 Men’s Swimming sweeps all events in win over Lenoir-Rhyne

Salisbury, N.C. — The 11th-ranked Catawba College Men's Swimming team closed out the 2025 calendar year with a decisive win over Lenoir-Rhyne at Johnson Pool, taking first in each of the 14 events in a dominant performance.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
200-Yard Medley Relay
- Catawba's 200 Medley relay team of Alejandro Alvarez, Marshall Wells, Jules Remy and Matt Howard cleared the rest of the field with a swim of 1:32.90
 
1000-Yard Freestyle
- Freshman Lincoln Council finished first in the Men's 1000 Free with a mark of 9:28.90
 
200-Yard Freestyle
- Lassi Niemi finished first among a Catawba group that finished 1-2-3 in the men's 200 Free with a time of 1:42.21
 
100-Yard Backstroke
- Matt Howard edged out yet another all-Catawba top three with a mark of 51.33 to take the event win in the 100 Backstroke
 
100-Yard Breastroke
- Ryan Case kept the Catawba winning ways going with a win in the 100 Breast, touching the wall in 56.18 seconds
 
200-Yard Butterfly
- Nazar Herashchenko paced an all-Catawba field in the Men's 200 Fly, recording a time of 1:50.31
 
50-Yard Freestyle
- Howard earned a win in the Men's 50 Free with a mark of 21.03
 
100-Yard Freestyle
- Niemi earned his second win of the meet with a win in the Men's 100 Free, beating out freshman Sammer Abdallah by one-hundredth of a second with a mark of 46.06
 
200-Yard Backstroke
- George Fykatas earned the event win in the Men's 200 Backstroke, breaking two minutes with a time of 1:52.96
 
200-Yard Breaststroke
- Joao Oliveira earned an event win in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:08.77
 
500-Yard Freestyle
- Herashchenko and Remy both earned B-cuts in a 1-2 finish in the Men's 500 Free; Herashchenko pulled away for the event win with a mark of 4:27.99
- Remy reached a B-cut in the event for the first time this season
 
100-Yard Butterfly
- Cameron Watson was the lone swimmer in the Men's 100 Fly to break 50 seconds, finishing ahead of LR's closest competitor by nearly five seconds with a mark of 48.95
 
200-Yard Individual Medley
- Case earned his second win of the afternoon in the Men's 200 IM with a mark of 1:53.37
 
200-Yard Freestyle Relay
- Catawba's 200 Free relay team of Abdallah, Hoard, Niemi and Ivo Cruz cruised to a win in the Men's 200 Free Relay to complete the 28-for-28 sweep among Catawba's teams with a time of 1:22.83
