SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College men's basketball team dispatched the Coker Cobras by a decisive 91-66 margin on Wednesday, stretching its undefeated start at Goodman Arena to four games.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (6-3, 2-2 SAC) shot over .500 for the second time this season, connecting on 50.8% of its attempts while holding Coker (1-8, 0-5 SAC) to a 47.4% clip
- The blue and white were cooking from three-point land, going 8-for-19 (42.1%) compared to the Cobras' rough 4-for-17 (23.5%) day — the lowest efficiency by a Catawba opponent this year
- At the free-throw line, Catawba came one attempt shy of its season high in opportunities and reaped the benefits with a 21-for-31 (67.7%) register against Coker's 8-for-15 (53.3%)
- The Catawba Indians finished with advantages in the major statistical categories, most importantly rebounding (42-26), turnovers forced (17-13) and blocks (5-2)
- Catawba made Coker's first-half turnovers burn with a 22-4 lead in points off takeaways, but the Cobras improved in the final 20 minutes with an 11-5 edge in their favor
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Justin Banks poured in 18 points, highlighted by a 3-for-3 performance from beyond the arc, to go with four boards, two assists and two blocks
- Making his first start since the season opener, Jordan Simpson set a new high-water mark of 15 points in 19 minutes of action
- Ibra Athie notched his second consecutive 13-point affair, sinking his only three-pointer attempt and posting a 4-for-4 mark at the charity stripe
- Zion McDuffie enjoyed a standout night that included a season-high 11 points and a career-high four steals, setting up multiple fast-break opportunities offensively
- Carson Daniel and Chase Daniel led the way in assists with three apiece while pacing the rebounding category with seven and six, respectively
