Spry, big first half run lead Women’s Basketball to win over E&H in 2025 finale

Salisbury, N.C. — Catawba College senior center Mary Spry tallied 23 points in 22 minutes to lead the Catawba Women's Basketball to one final victory in Goodman Arena to close action in the 2025 calendar year on Saturday afternoon.

TEAM STATISTICS

- Catawba shot 29-for-73 (40 percent) from the field, while Emory & Henry 21-of-60 (35 percent) from the floor

- The Wasps were 6-for-22 (27 percent) from three-point range; the Catawba Indians shot 8-of-31 (26 percent) from deep

- E&H was 18-for-19 (95 percent) from the free throw line, while Catawba was 13-for-18 (72 percent) at the foul line

- Emory & Henry out-rebounded the Catawba Indians 49-38; their 12 offensive rebounds helped the Wasps hold a 10-4 edge in second-chance points

- Catawba recorded 20 assists to 16 turnovers, while the Wasps had 13 assists to 31 turnovers; Catawba held a commanding 32-18 advantage in points off turnovers

- The Catawba Indians led in points in the paint (36-22), fastbreak points (16-14) and bench points (24-16)

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Spry scored 23 points in 22 minutes of action on 9-of-14 shooting with seven rebounds and three steals

- Brooklin Ingram added 14 points with four three-pointers

- Imani Williams tallied nine points and a career-high eight assists

- Saniya Wilson chipped in nine points off the bench

- Kaelyn Allen buried a pair of key three-pointers in the second half

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST QUARTER

- Emory & Henry opened up an 8-3 lead in the first two minutes

- Back-to-back Spry baskets quickly cut the deficit to one

- Catawba's 16-0 run over less than five minutes flipped the game to a double-digit lead for Catawba

- The Catawba Indians led 27-14 after 10 minutes

SECOND QUARTER

- The lead grew to 17 points on Julie Janus' fastbreak layup

- Williams' layup in the final seconds of the first half gave Catawba a 47-26 lead at the half

THIRD QUARTER

- The Wasps went on a 14-0 run, keeping Catawba scoreless for four and a half minutes of action to whittle the deficit all the way down to 10 points

- Makayla Stokes and Ingram combined on two triples to stop the bleeding

- Catawba led 64-49 at the end of the third quarter

FOURTH QUARTER

- Sheree Gidney canned a three-pointer to take a 19-point lead early in the fourth

- E&H made another run, scoring eight straight to cut the deficit to 14 points with four minutes to go

- Catawba's defense stepped up, holding the Wasps to just two points in the final 2:49 to thwart the comeback attempt
