BELMONT, N.C. – Due to forecasted inclement weather, the Catawba College women's lacrosse team's midweek duel at Belmont Abbey has been shifted to Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Season-Opening Victory
- The Catawba Indians took a firm 16-7 win in its trip to Shorter on Saturday, tallying the program's first regulation season opener triumph
- Grace Virginia Deal poured in five points on four goals and a helper for a solid start to her college career
- Abby Shuren also found the back of the net four times and Helena Cronemiller scored twice with an assist to total three points
- Audrey Adelsberger led the defensive corps with three ground balls and was one of three Catawba Indians with a caused turnover, while Kylie Harris recorded a team-high five draw controls
- In the crease, Ava Kunza turned away 11 Lady Hawk shots in her first collegiate contest to seal the win
First Game, First Point
- Three Catawba rookies logged their first career point in the rout at Shorter
- Deal led the newcomers with her five-point performance, becoming the newest freshman with five points in a contest; Shuren was the last to do so, chalking up eight points at Converse on Feb. 15, 2024
- Allison Filosa dished out an assist on the team's last goal before halftime
- Rylie Faircloth found paydirt with her first collegiate shot on a free position, man-advantage goal to kick off a late 7-0 run
- Deal, Filosa, Kunza, Skylar Mullin and Hannah Abel all started in their career debuts

- Catawba is 1-6 against the Crusaders all-time, claiming a 12-11 overtime victory in the Feb. 25, 2016 meeting
- Belmont Abbey rides a four-game winning streak with triumphs in each of the last three seasons featuring back-to-back 19-goal affairs
- A win for the Catawba Indians would be their first on the Crusaders' home turf and tie the program's best start in its 14-year history
Scouting the Crusaders
- Belmont Abbey, entering the IWLCA Coaches' Poll at No. 25 on Monday, improved to 1-1 with a 16-9 win against 24th-ranked Mount Olive over the weekend
- Both of the Crusaders opponents appeared in the national poll as The Abbey faced then-No. 14 Saint Leo in the season debut, suffering an 18-5 loss
- Olivia Carlino is the squad's top scorer with nine goals, netting seven on Saturday alone to earn the Conference Carolinas' Offensive Player of the Week award
- The Abbey swept the league's weekly awards as junior netminder was named Defensive Player of the Week after making nine saves and racking up six ground balls against the Trojans
