SALISBURY, N.C. — After pocketing two wins at home last week, the Catawba College women's volleyball team looks to make it three in a row as it welcomes 20th-ranked Wingate for the South Atlantic Conference opener at Goodman Arena on Tuesday evening.
Starting Strong
- The Catawba Indians boast a 3-2 record, which is their best start through five matches since the 2018 season
- With a 2-0 record at Goodman Arena, the blue and white also hold their best start on home court since 2011, which is the last time Catawba claimed an NCAA Tournament berth
- Martina Foster is currently fourth in the conference with a .337 hitting percentage, which slots just outside the top 100 nationally
- Riley Hill stands 91st in Division II with 4.38 digs per set
Hey Avery!
- Avery Fleshood mastered the test of filling in at libero on Friday, chalking up 28 digs with three service aces and a trio of assists in the Catawba Indians' win over Shaw
- The Orlando, Fla., native's previous career high in digs was 10, meaning that she nearly tripled it last week
- Fleshood's career totals catapulted to 87 digs, five aces and 13 assists early in her third season at Catawba
1 & 5 on the Outside
- Sofia Beard and Lillie Kate Rogers have been steady presences at the pin positions
- The pair has combined for 113 kills, splitting the load nearly evenly with Rogers owning a one-dart edge
- The duo also accounts for nine of the team's total blocks (Beard leads, 9-4) as well as 10 service aces (Rogers leads, 6-4)
- Beard and Rogers rank 10th and 12th in the conference for points per set, respectively
All-Time Series
- The 'Dogs lead the all-time series 64-39 following two wins in the 2024 campaign
- Wingate is the Catawba Indians' most common opponent in program history as the rivalry spans 53 years and 103 meetings
- Nine of the last 11 meetings have resulted in Wingate sweeps with a tall 27-2 score differential
- A victory for Catawba would be their first since 2008 and would snap a 35-match winning streak for the Bulldogs
Scouting the Bulldogs
- Wingate tore through its four-match slate last weekend to improve to 7-1, all of their wins coming via sweep

- Last season, Wingate dropped just one set in the postseason until its 3-0 demise in the national quarterfinals against Lynn, who went on to win the national championship
- Senior libero Maddie Hoffman has earned back-to-back SAC Defensive Player of the Week honors and stands fifth in the country with 5.88 digs per set
