Women’s Volleyball outlasted by UVA Wise in five sets

SALISBURY, N.C. — In a spirited back-and-forth contest, the Catawba College women's volleyball team was outlasted by South Atlantic Conference foe UVA Wise, 3-2, at Goodman Arena on Friday evening.

TEAM STATS
- Catawba (3-5, 0-3 SAC) maintained a shallow lead in hitting percentage, batting .237 while UVA Wise (7-6, 2-3 SAC) hit .220
- The Cavaliers executed 10 blocks to the Catawba Indians' five and logged one fewer block error (2-1)
- Miscues on serve receive burned the hosts as UVA Wise landed 15 aces; Catawba had less than half that amount at six
- The match featured a total of 22 tied scores and 14 lead changes; the first set alone was tied 11 times with the lead changing hands on eight occasions

INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Sofia Beard headlined the attacking corps with a 20 kills, the most by a Catawba Indian this season
- Sára Puskás fired in 10 kills on a squad-best .320 hitting percentage
- Jordan Duzenack made a sizable impact with nine kills, nine digs and a solo block
- Martina Foster recorded nine kills with pairs of blocks and service aces
- After missing Tuesday's match, Tamie Boudot did not miss a beat and instead tallied 45 assists with five digs, two aces and two blocks
- Riley Hill enjoyed a busy night on the back row, registering 25 digs with three dimes and an ace

NOTES
- Beard beat her previous season-high kills mark by five, falling short of her career high by the same amount. Her 20 kills are the most by a Catawba player since that 25-smash outburst on Nov. 8, 2024
- Duzenack's near double-double marked career bests in kills and digs
- Boudot tallied the first two blocks of her career with a new high in assists that exceeded her previous career best by 20. She is the first Catawba Indian to surpass 40 helpers since Nov. 12, 2024, when teammate Haley Moffett had 42
- Hill set a new season high in digs by one
- Jamianne Foster served her first career ace with a career-high nine digs
- Redshirt freshman Maddie Dayton registered the second and third kills of her young career
- Catawba moves to 1-1 in five-set matches and improves to 5-3 in opening stanzas

Catawba hits the road for its first true away match on Tuesday, Sept. 30, against Coker. First serve in Hartsville, S.C., is scheduled for 7 p.m.
