SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College men's volleyball team shattered its hitting percentage record in a 3-0 sweep of Erskine that lasted just over an hour on Friday evening at Goodman Arena.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (10-12) was successful more often than not in attack, drilling 44 kills on a program-record .507 hitting percentage while holding Erskine (8-13) to 27 kills and a .171 clip
- The blue and white had an excellent day in service with a 4-1 advantage in aces while tallying six errors against the Flying Fleet's 12
- The Catawba Indians posted one of the program's finest blocking performances with 11 total blocks and limited Erskine to two
- Against the Catawba offense, the Flying Fleet were held to 17 digs – marking a season low for Erskine as well as Catawba opponents – while the hosts put up a 30-stop effort
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Justin Arrowood tied the Catawba three-set record of 18 kills on 23 swings with no attacking errors, notching the second-best individual hitting percentage (minimum 20 attempts in a three-set match) nationwide
- John Clinton found paydirt on eight attacks, also adding six digs – possessing a share of the team lead – and a solo block
- Anders Christianson mashed seven kills and played a role in four Catawba blocks with two digs on the defensive side of the ball
- Middle blockers Wyatt Eastin and Logan Neitzel registered five kills, four blocks (including one solo) and one ace each while combining for seven digs and a .500 success rate hitting-wise
- Kristian Smith fed the hitting corps with 30 assists in addition to his six digs, two aces and one block; the Zebulon, N.C., product received ample help as one of seven players with a dime
- Max Adkisson patrolled the floor with five digs and three assists at the libero position
