SALISBURY, N.C. — Thanks to their contributions on the field and in the classroom, seniors Máté Kenyeres and Vito Venaría of the Catawba College men's soccer program were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.
Kenyeres wrapped up his second campaign at Catawba with a conference-high eight goals and 16 points, earning him South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors. As a student, the Budapest, Hungary, native has compiled a 3.62 GPA while studying sport management.
Venaría rebounded from back-to-back season-ending injuries to have a fruitful year in Catawba's midfield, appearing in all 15 matches — starting eight — while scoring a goal with two assists. A native of Rosario, Argentina, Venaría is majoring in marketing and holds a stellar 3.91 GPA.
Both student-athletes are first-time award winners. The Catawba men's soccer program has earned 20 Academic All-District honors since 1996.
