Preston Brown named SAC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Rock Hill, S.C. — Catawba College graduate student quarterback Preston Brown was named the South Atlantic Conference Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.

The Second Team All-SAC quarterback also excelled in the classroom, holding a 3.922 cumulative grade-point average, while currently pursuing his Masters in Business Administration.

The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

Brown is the first Catawba Indian to earn the SAC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor since 2010 when Patrick Dennis was bestowed the award. Brown is the fourth in program history to be named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, joining Dennis, Nick Means and Carpaccio Owens.

The Charlotte native threw for 26 passing touchdowns, which ranked second in program history with 2,755 passing yards, good for third-most by a Catawba Indian in a single season, allowing him to be named a Harlon Hill nominee.

Brown will advance to SAC Man of the Year consideration later this academic year.
