Anderson, S.C. —- Catawba College senior Kary Hales and junior Brianna Gallagher both picked up their second First Team All-Region honors this award season, this time from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA), the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
The pair enjoyed historic seasons for the Catawba Indians, as Gallagher won the club's first-ever SAC Player of the Year award with the most home runs in a single season in program history, while Hales led the nation for much of the year in doubles, landing the single-season and career team record in the category.
Gallagher hit .480 while mashing 16 homers, good for a .907 slugging percentage, good for third best in the country. She ranks fifth in the country with her .480 batting average and seventh in the nation in home runs per game.
Hales was not far behind with a .452 batting average with a program-record 20 doubles and 11 stolen bases on as many attempts. The Salisbury native added nine homers herself, helping to a team-best 49 RBI on the season.
Both Gallgher and Hales will advance to D2CCA All-America consideration, hoping to join just two All-Americans in program history in Carley Tysinger and Riley Tucker.
