Salisbury, N.C. —- Catawba College swim coach Regan Nolan has been promoted to Associate Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach, Catawba Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach Matthew Gearing announced Wednesday.
"I could not be more proud to announce the promotion of Regan to Associate Head Coach," Gearing said. "She has been an integral part of the program for the last three years and we could not have had the success we've had without her. Watching her development – not only as a coach, but as a person and a friend – has been so fun. I know she will continue to be an advocate for our student-athletes and live our motto of Developing Tomorrow's Leaders at Catawba Today. We've only begun to scratch the surface of what is possible here at Catawba and I can't wait to see what we do together in the years to come."
Catawba Swimming has enjoyed historic success with Nolan on staff, with both teams reaching or matching their highest finish in program history at the South Atlantic Conference Championships this past February. Additionally, both teams set their highest national finish at the NCAA Division II Championships with the women finishing 14th and the men finishing 16th.
"I feel incredibly honored to step into this new role as Associate Head Coach at a program that I hold so near to my heart," Nolan said. "The last three years have been a remarkable journey working alongside Coach Gearing and I cannot thank him and the Catawba athletic department enough for allowing me this opportunity. The impact these student-athletes have had on my life is indescribable, and I feel immense pride that I get the privilege to help lead them throughout their time here."
In the three years under Gearing and Nolan, Catawba Swimming has racked up 37 All-American honors and 20 SAC champions, while sending a program-record 16 student-athletes to the NCAA meet this past year.
In addition to their success in the pool, Catawba Men's and Women's Swimming have also excelled in the classroom. Both teams earned the Team GPA award at the Division II Championships, while the women recorded their fifth consecutive semester with the highest team GPA in Division II.
