NORMAN, Okla. — Paul Esnault and Allan Lockwood of the Catawba College men's golf team were tabbed 2024-25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Tuesday.
Esnault, boasting a 3.51 GPA while studying human performance, scorched courses with a stroke average of 72.78 – the third-lowest in program history – during his sophomore campaign that featured an NCAA Regionals berth. Lockwood continued his exemplary career in the classroom with a 4.00 GPA in the Catawba MBA program. The native of Elizabethtown, Ky., posted a 74.85 stroke average with seven par-or-better rounds. Both student-athletes were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large Team in June.
Catawba is one of five South Atlantic Conference programs to be recognized as Anderson, Lincoln Memorial, Newberry and Wingate were also represented by multiple players. Click HERE for the full list of honorees.
To be nominated, an individual must be a sophomore, junior, or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. They must also participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA. Recipients must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their institution.
