MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — Max Adkisson of the Catawba College men's volleyball team was tabbed the Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (IVA) Defensive Player of the Week for his performances in the Volunteer State last weekend.
The sophomore hailing from Vernon Hills, Ill., registered 22 digs and six assists from the libero position in Catawba's 1-1 week. Adkisson spread his output equally across the win at Tusculum and loss at Lincoln Memorial, recording 11 digs and three helpers in each contest.
In national rankings, Adkisson ranks 13th with 2.32 digs per set and currently holds the third-highest dig total in a five-set match with 21 at Belmont Abbey (Jan. 15).
While Adkisson was a Preseason All-IVA Tournament selection, the weekly award is the first of his career. The Catawba Indians have earned six IVA Players of the Week this season by five different student-athletes, including three Defensive Players of the Week won by three unique players.
Catawba is back in action on Friday, Mar. 27, at IVA foe Newberry. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. inside Eleazer Arena.
