Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's swimming team opened its 2025-26 campaign on Saturday at Johnson Pool with a decisive win over Division I Gardner-Webb, defeating the Swimmin' Bulldogs for the fourth consecutive meeting.
HOW IT HAPPENED
200-Yard Medley Relay
- Catawba's team of Eniko Onofer, Hannah Koopmans, Sydney Peterson and Marit Reckmann earned the first win of the season with a time of 1:44.43
1000-Yard Freestyle
- Fiona Byrne and Ella Gutenwik were the top two finishers in the 1000 Free; Byrne's 10:11:85 mark was good for an NCAA B-cut
200-Yard Freestyle
- Danielle Meinema led a trio of Catawba Indians to finish first in the women's 200 yard free, picking up the nine points with a time of 1:52.84
100-Yard Backstroke
- Onofer followed up with an individual victory in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a 56.86
100-Yard Freestyle
- Reckmann rolled to an individual event win in the 100 free with an NCAA B-cut time of 51.69
200-Yard Backstroke
- Eszter Pajor broke the school record in the 200 back in her Catawba and collegiate debut, earning a time of 2:03.08
200-Yard Breaststroke
- Gabriella Moll edged out the closest GWU swimmer to take the individual win in the 200 breaststroke, posting a mark of 2:20.24
500-Yard Freestyle
- Byrne picked up her second individual victory and NCAA B-cut of the afternoon in the 500 Free with a time of 5:02.97
100-Yard Butterfly
- Onofer made it three wins in the meet with a slight win over teammate Peterson in the 100 Fly with a 56.34
400-Yard Freestyle Relay
- Onofer, Reckmann, Peterson and Brinkley Watson closed out the meet with a triumphant win in the 400 Free Relay, winning by over four seconds over the next Catawba team and nearly six seconds over the GW A-team with a mark of 3:29.76
