Charlotte, N.C. —- The eighth-ranked Catawba College women's swimming team completed their first day of competition at the Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy Invite hosted by Queens University of Charlotte on Friday, standing in seventh place as a team after Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
PRELIMS
500-Yard Freestyle
- Fiona Byrne picked up an NCAA B-cut early on in the morning with a third-place finish in the 500 Free with a mark of 4:59.04
- Gutenwik placed sixth in the prelims of the 500 Free with a time of 4:59.98, good for another B-cut
- Danielle Meinema was the third Catawba Indian in the top 10 in the 500 Free prelims, grabbing a B-cut distinction with a 5:01.73 swim
50-Yard Freestyle
- Marit Reckmann just missed out on the A final in the 50 Free with a B-cut quality time of 23.25
FINALS
200-Yard Freestyle Relay
- Catawba's 200 Free relay team of Reckmann, Marleen Plachetka, Eszter Pajor and Eniko Onofer placed fifth with a swim of 1:33.41
500-Yard Freestyle
- Byrne went on to finish four in the evening finals, with a nearly identical time of 4:58.97
- Gutenwik followed up with an eighth-place finish in the finals
- Meinema touched first in the consolation final with a three second-improved 4:57.70
50-Yard Freestyle
- Reckmann finished first in the consolation final in the 50 Free, breaking 23 seconds with a 22.99 effort in the evening session
400-Yard Medley Relay
- Catawba's team of Pajor, Sydney McKenzie, Sydney Peterson and Reckmann placed seventh in the 400 Medley relay with a mark of 3:45.42
