Rock Hill, S.C. —- Catawba College sophomore Nazar Herashchenko was named WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Male Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Herashchenko set the meet and school record in the 1650 Free at the Fall Frenzy Invitational hosted at Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday with a mark of 15:19.76. The time is 11 seconds faster than the next fastest 1650 swimmer in the conference.
The Dnipro, Ukraine native also finished first in the 500 Free on Friday, besting the field by over three seconds with a mark of 4:22.76, which stands over four seconds faster than the next closest competitor in the SAC.
Herashchenko helped lead 11th-ranked Catawba to a sixth-place finish at the midseason meet, filled with Division I and top Division II competition.
Catawba returns to the pool on Friday, Dec. 12, when it hosts Lenoir-Rhyne at 11 a.m.
