MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — The Catawba College men's volleyball program saw two of its players earn weekly awards from the Intercollegiate Volleyball Association on Monday as
Logan Neitzel was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week, while
Mason Archer collected his second straight Setter of the Week prize.
The freshman pair keyed Catawba to a midweek victory over Newberry in straight sets and helped the blue and white keep pace in two road matches against Saint Francis over the weekend.
Neitzel nabbed his first IVA accolade by totaling 12 blocks (one solo), 14 kills and three service aces over the three-match period, leading all IVA players in blocks per set (1.33) and hitting percentage (.407). The Hartland, Wis., native went 6-for-7 (.857) in attack with five blocks and two digs in Tuesday's sweeping victory over Newberry. He leads the team in blocking with 40 total stops, averaging 1.05 per stanza.
The defending IVA Setter of the Week retained his crown after amassing 76 assists, 18 digs, three kills, two aces and two blocks across nine sets last week. Archer set a new career high in digs twice, doing so with seven stops during a 32-dime affair against Newberry before rounding out the weekend at Saint Francis with eight on Saturday.
The Catawba Indians return to action tomorrow (Feb. 24) at Erskine with first serve at 6 p.m.
