Kingsport, Tenn. —- The 10th-ranked Catawba College men's swimming team set yet another meet record on Day Three of the South Atlantic Conference Championships at the Kingsport (Tenn.) Aquatic Center on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
500-Yard Freestyle
- Nazar Herashchenko successfully defended his SAC title in the Men's 500 Freestyle for an all-Catawba sweep of the event with a mark of 4:24.15
- Jules Remy added a podium finish of third with a showing of 4:27.74
- Sammer Abdallah was the third Catawba Indian to reach the championship final in the event with a mark of 4:34.54, good for sixth
100-Yard Backstroke
- George Fykatas challenged for the conference title in the Men's 100 Back, finishing just over half a second behind the new meet record holder with a time of 48.56
100-Yard Breaststroke
- Maks Minichowski defended his 100 Breast title for his first individual title of the week in the 100 Breast, clearing the rest of the field by over half a second with a time of 53.06
- Ryan Case, Rowan Viles and Marshall Wells joined him in the championship final with fifth-, seventh- and eighth-place finishes
200-Yard Butterfly
- Cameron Watson turned in another high-podium finish, this time in the 200 Fly with a runner-up mark of 1:48.15
- Alejandro Alvarez also picked up a B-cut time with a fourth-place finish time of 1:49.84
- Lassi Niemi and Joao Oliveira also punched their ticket to the championship final, placing seventh and eighth, respectively
200-Yard Freestyle Relay
- After entering the meet with no relay conference titles in program history, Catawba's men picked up their third in as many tries with a meet-record finish of 1:19.63 by the Catawba Indian team of Minichowski, Matt Howard, Case and Niemi in a photo finish
