Eight Swimming student-athletes named CSC Academic All-District

Greenwood, Ind. —- Eight Catawba College Swimming student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District team, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.

On the men's side, senior Alejandro Alvarez, juniors Ryan Case and Maks Minichowski and sophomore Cameron Watson were named CSC Academic All-District selections, while senior Marit Reckmann, juniors Fiona Byrne and Enikö Onofer and sophomore Sydney Peterson received the distinction on the women's side.

The organization recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. Each institution is honored with a maximum of eight honorees who meet cumulative GPA and participation requirements.

The group of eight student-athletes helped lead Catawba to its top finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships, where both Catawba Indian teams placed ninth at the national meet. Catawba's women repeated as the top performing program in the country by GPA, while Reckmann earned Catawba Athletics' first-ever Elite Scholar-Athlete award at the NCAA National Championships.

Byrne, Case, Minichowski, Reckmann and Watson were selected to advance to Academic All-America consideration, which is released in late April.
