Kingsport, Tenn. — The 10th-ranked Catawba College women's swimming team picked up two more South Atlantic Conference titles at the league's championship meet on Thursday, standing roughly 40 points behind meet leader Wingate with one day to go.
HOW IT HAPPENED
500-Yard Freestyle
- Danielle Meinema earned her second conference title of the week in the Women's 500 Freestyle, breaking five minutes with a mark of 4:57.83
- Fiona Byrne was the conference runner-up, touching just ahead of the Carson-Newman swimmer in third with a time of 5:00.78
- Ella Gutenwik also earned a spot in the championship final, placing fourth with a swim of 5:01.07
100-Yard Backstroke
- Eniko Onofer placed third in the Women's 100 Back with a mark of 56.27
- Makayla Bazeley and Eszter Pajor also earned spots in the championship final, placing fifth and seventh, respectively
100-Yard Breaststroke
- Catawba's trio of Mahee Gory-Lauret, Sydney McKenzie and Gabi Moll finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively in the 100 Breast with marks all within six-tenths of a second of each other
200-Yard Butterfly
- Peterson, Rebecca Possenti and Jolina Franke represented Catawba in the 200 Fly championship final, placing fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively
200-Yard Freestyle Relay
- Catawba's 200 Free Relay team of Clara Campo de Paoli, Marit Reckmann, Onofer and Pajor set an NCAA-qualifying mark in the 200 Free Relay on their way to a SAC title to close the night with a mark of 1:32.88, over three seconds clear of the field
