Kingsport, Tenn. — The Catawba College men's swimming team saw freshman Jules Remy earn the South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year award and senior Alejandro Alvarez earn the conference's Elite 23 award after final action at the league's conference championships at the Kingsport Aquatic Center on Saturday. Catawba matched their highest finish in program history with a second-place finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1650-Yard Freestyle
- Nazar Herashchenko picked up his third SAC title of the week, besting the nearest Wingate competitor by just over a second in the Men's 1650 Free with a time of 15:23.80
- Lincoln Council turned in a sixth-place effort with a swim of 15:58.26
100-Yard Freestyle
- Maks Minichowski finished as the runner-up in the Men's 100 Free with a swim of 43.54
- Matt Howard also earned a spot in the championship final, finishing in a dead-heat tie of fifth
200-Yard Backstroke
- George Fykatas won the SAC title in the Men's 200 Back, setting a school record along the way with a mark of 1:45.58
- Alvarez clinched a spot in the championship final, tying for sixth
200-Yard Breaststroke
- Remy broke his third SAC meet of the week, becoming the first in league history to break two minutes in the 200 Breaststroke with a mark of 1:59.53
- Ryan Case was the runner-up in the event, touching the wall in 2:01.27
- Marshall Wells and Rowan Viles earned their spot in the championship final, placing fifth and sixth
400-Yard Freestyle Relay
- Catawba's 400 Free Relay team of Minichowski, Case, Sammer Abdallah and Remy placed as the runners-up in the Men's 400 Free relay with a time of 2:56.95
